Busted Prelim

Lip syncing practice

Props, costumes, locations.

While in our 3 separate groups we were told to make a list of the different props and costumes we were going to need for each of the two locations for our prelim. We also got told to make a list of the actors so we knew we had enough people. We came up with this list of the props and costumes:

• School uniform for groupies
• Blazers for busted (Waistcoat for James with badges)
• Appropriate school teacher clothes.
• White trainers.
• 2 guitars and 1 bass for outside shots.
• Black/white board and pen.
• Pencil
• Paper
• Video/video player

Our cast were as follows:

• Charlie: Tim Andrews and Josh Stevens
• Matt: Mark Bramford and Mikey Elliot
• James: Ricken Ram and Dan Bailey
• Teacher: Hannah Scouler
• Girl turning around: Emmy Garner
• Walking girls: Steph Humes and
• Groupies in the outside shots: Hannah Skidmore, Me, Nicky Chapman, Fred and Catherine.
• Girl dancing: Owain Anderson

The rest of the class helped set up the scenes or were in the background of the inside shots.

Post Production

I think my editing skills improved dramatically during the post-production stage of the preliminary activity. I managed to work effectively in a team when editing so that we all gave our opinions on the lip syncing and how in time it was with the song. I think that due to some shots not being filmed we didn't complete this to the best of our ability we managed to work around and add extra shots or elongate some shots to make up the time. We also worked well as a team in getting the song and syncing it to the mac, we used Zamzar to download the song and to put it onto the mac, we also used zamzar to download the video to put onto Hannah's blackberry so we could use it as reference when editing the shots together. I think my timings within editing has improved but in future I think I could step back more because I took charge a lot during editing and I should let the other group members have a go at editing.

Production

During production I took an active role in being an extra in the outside shots. This meant I didn't manage to judge the shots in comparison to the actual video. I don't think my skills during production improved during the time I was shooting the video because I didn't get to see the original shots and compare it to our version until it had been uploaded onto the mac. I think that we worked well as a team because all the people in the shots were willing to mimic the actual video and the people who were setting up the shots behind the camera managed to get the angles correct in most cases.

Pre Production

During the pre-production stage of our preliminary task I took an active role in pointing out the various props and costume we would need in the shots that we were going to be filming. I feel that watching the video multiple times and having other people to talk to improved my skills in picking out relevant props and costume to get the right representation and feel from the shots. It has also helped me notice the detail that goes into costumes in order to mimic the shots exactly. My weakness is pre-production was the storyboarding because i didn’t take an active role within the team when it came to this, to improve this I will have to give my opinion of the shots used and in which order. I also think i need to add more detail into a risk assessment to improve my skills.
